Hi There! My name is Judith Anne Matthews and I am the woman behind Jam Textile Studio, located in beautiful Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Every textile in my studio is hand crafted by me. I have a passion for colour, design and texture that challenges traditional dyeing, spinning and weaving practices. It is my belief that this provides you, the buyer, with a joyful and unique experience that only an authentic, one-of-a-kind, handwoven piece can create.

I invite you to take this journey with me as I begin this new chapter, offering my handmade textiles in this fresh online marketplace!
you deserve more...
more meaning
more connection
more transparency
.

You love the warm feeling that comes from purchasing a one of a kind, slow made piece of art or fine craft. The experience is so different than purchasing something that has been mass produced and manufactured. You appreciate the opportunity to purchase a unique, handmade piece that you can cherish everyday.

You are excited to have a connection to the artist, knowing the story behind their craft and the piece you have chosen. It becomes such a lovely and inspirational part of purchasing the work, and not just another transactional moment.

You deserve to feel good about your purchase, knowing you are supporting a person who commits to using sustainable, earth friendly practices in their business and the creation of their art and is transparent in every aspect of the process.

creating "conscious cloth"
its in the details

As a small batch textile artist, I have core values that inform how I manage my business and create my products. When you purchase one of my hand weavings I can assure you it comes from a place of deep appreciation and consideration for all aspects of the world we live in.

To ethically produce my finished product, paying living wages to fibre/yarn suppliers and all other services, using local and Canadian suppliers wherever possible.

To minimize water consumption in my dyeing and finishing practices, making sure dye pots are fully exhausted and the water reused.

To have minimal chemical additives go back into the environment. I leave all my dyed fibre to sit overnight so that all the dye goes into the fibre and none is left to be discarded back into the environment. If any is present, I will use that dye/pot as an overdye/glaze for my next project.

To use fleece that is shorn from small herds of happy animals where I have either met the shepherds, or have been able to verify their humane practices before I purchase their fleeces.
my promise to you
